Brett Grace’s defaced image of Donald Trump for the Dixie Chicks 2016 World Tour

Brett Grace worked on Controversial Tour Visuals for the Dixie Chicks

Brett Grace worked on the production of tour visuals for The Chicks - DCX MMXVI World Tour. Most notably, Brett assembled photos of morally bankrupt figures to be shown on large screens behind the band during their performances of their 1999 hit “Goodbye Earl,” which included mugshots of disgraced individuals such as O.J. Simpson and Bernie Madoff, and per Brett’s insistence - a last minute addition of a photo of Donald Trump with devil horns and mock facial hair.

The DCX MMXVI World Tour started in Antwerp, Belgium in April 2016, and finished in London, Ontario, Canada in April 2017, during which Trump would go on to win the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election and became president.

Trump responded to the defaced photo by saying: “These good-for-nothing women are chicken; they’re no longer chicks. They’re doing to me what they did to George W. 13 years ago. They’re trying hard to learn new tricks, but they’re too old for that and should be ashamed of themselves.”

The inclusion of the defaced photo of Trump sparked significant controversy during the 2016 election, garnering numerous headlines like “Dixie Chicks Wage Another Political War—and This Time, It’s With Donald Trump,” “Dixie Chicks Mock Donald Trump With Defaced Photo at Concert,” “Dixie Chicks take a swipe at Donald Trump,” et al.

Select dates of the tour were filmed, and was shown in theatres for a one-night only cinema event in August 2017, before being released on DVD/Blu-Ray as DCX MMXVI Live. It is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
